Sun City Lincoln Hills’ proposed ban on electric-assisted bicycles faces strong opposition

Lincoln (Lincoln) 55 and older communities are proposing to ban electric bicycles on their trails. This allows residents with mobility impairments to try to stop the ban before it takes effect.
Seventy-four-year-old Sandy Olsen lives in the Sun City Lincoln Hills community and loves her recumbent electric bicycle.
After Olson fell and injured her spine, she could no longer ride a traditional bicycle. Now, she is fighting a proposal from the Sun City Lincoln Hills community that bans the use of electric assisted bicycles on community trails.
“Only low-impact use of walking, jogging and non-motorized riding is allowed. The use of any type of motor vehicle, including electric bicycles, is prohibited.”
The proposal comes from concerns during the pandemic that more and more residents are using this trail, leading to more conflicts between cyclists and pedestrians.
Abbott has its own electric bicycles and uses the trails there. They said that any safety issues should focus on the car.
The HOA committee will discuss this issue tomorrow. A full board vote is expected sometime next month.
